According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air quality can have long term effects on the health of people in the indoor environment.
There are many different thing that could be found in our air. From simple particles of dust to hazardous particle of asbestos. Educating our generations on these subject is very important for healthy future.
There are so many common problems that we find in ourselves and in our children. Children are growing, which make them vulnerable to get effected with breathing problem such as asthma, sinus etc
MOLD is a fungal growth that develops on wet materials. Mold is a natural part of the environment and plays an important part in nature by breaking down dead organic matter such as fallen leaves and dead trees; indoors, mold growth should be avoided. Mold reproduce by means of tiny spores. The spores are like seeds, but invisible to the naked eye, that float through the air and deposit on surfaces. When the temperature, moisture, and available nutrient conditions are correct, the spores can form into new mold colonies where they are deposited. There are many types of mold, but all require moisture and a food source for growth.
Symptoms of mold exposure may include nasal and sinus congestion; runny nose, eye irritation; itchy, red, watery eyes, respiratory problems, such as wheezing and difficulty breathing, chest tightness, cough, throat irritation, skin irritation (such as a rash), headache, and persistent sneezing. Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may get serious infections in their lungs when they are exposed to mold. These people should stay away from areas that are likely to have mold, such as compost piles, cut grass, and wooded areas.
All are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals, each fiber being composed of many microscopic ‘fibrils’ that can be released into the atmosphere by abrasion and other processes. Asbestos is an excellent electrical insulator and is highly resistant to heat, so for many years it was used as a building material. However, it is a well known health hazard, and today its use as a building material is banned in many countries. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various serious lung conditions, including asbestosis and cancer.
Common symptoms of asbestosis include:
- Shortness of breath.
- Tightness in your chest.
- Persistent dry cough.
- Chest pain.
- Appetite loss.
- Finger clubbing (enlarged fingertips)
- Nail deformities.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. Some cause illness in people and others cause illness in animals. Human coronaviruses are common and are typically associated with mild illnesses, similar to the common cold.
COVID-19 is a new disease that has not been previously identified in humans. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people, and more rarely, these can then spread from person to person through close contact.
There have been 2 other specific coronaviruses that have spread from animals to humans and which have caused severe illness in humans. These are the:
- severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS CoV)
- Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS CoV)
Symptoms of COVID-19 can vary from person to person. Symptoms may also vary in different age groups. Some of the more commonly reported symptoms include:
- New or worsening cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Temperature equal to or over 38°C
- Feeling feverish
- Chills
- Fatigue or weakness
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of smell or taste
- Headache
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting)
- Feeling very unwell
Secure ventilation of spaces with outdoor air.
Switch air handling units with central recirculation to 100% outdoor air.
Switch on ventilation at least 2 hours before & after occupancy.
Ensure CO2-controlled ventilation runs at maximum capacity during occupancy.
Install a CO2 monitor with traffic light indication.
Instruct workers/tenant/staff on proper use of ventilation facilities.
Make sure to wash hand for 20 sec, whenever you come indoor from outside.
Cover your mouth whenever you are coughing or sneezing.
Avoid contact when not necessary.
Adhere to social distancing.
Wear mask when you are in close proximity of others.
Avoid large gathering, especially with people outside of your family/friend circle.
